Enchanted Circle

Challenging and mountainous rout with with 5,000 feet climbing (86 or 102 mile loop).

Description: From Taos Cyclery east on Canyon (left) one block. Cross NM 68 cont. east on NM 585 2 miles to NM 64. Turn right. Begin Climbing Taos Canyon. El Nogal Picnic Area, Las Petacas Campground (CG), Sierra Village Camping and RV Park (snacks available), Capulin CG, La Sombra CG, Enchanted Moon CG, Palo Flechado Pass ( 5 miles, last 2 miles steep Elev. 9100'), Winding tight descend with no shoulder, junction with NM 434 ( to get a true 100 miles ) turn right, NM 434 south for 7 miles-turn around on NM 434, back to junction NM 64 east, turn right, DAV Vietnam Memorial on left, Wheeler Peak on left, Eagle Nest Lake straight ahead. Left on NM 38 to Red River, 12 miles to Bobcat Pass. This is the Moreno Valley. Climb to Elev. 9820' and Bobcat Pass, fast descent for 3.5 mile into Red River. NM 38 to Questa descend to Junebug CG, Elephant Rock CG, Fawn Lake CG, Columbine CG, Goat Hill CG, Eagle Rock Lake, then into Questa. Turn left NM 522 ( Stop Light ). NM 522 south is rolling terrain to Arroyo Hondo. Herb’s Lounge on the right for snacks, last climb before Taos. Junction with NM 64. NM 522 will turn into NM 68-64 at this junction, go south (straight). 6 miles to Canyon Rd. (NM 585). Turn right at the light. One block to Salazar. Turn right to Taos Cyclery parking lot.

Taos Historic Town Ride

Little elevation change with gradual descents (10 or 18 mile loop).

From Taos Cyclery east on Canyon (left). Junction NM 68 turn right, south 1.5 miles to NM 240, turn right, west. 2.3 miles junction with Los Cordovas Rd., hard right-hand turn to stay on NM 240. 0.3 miles to junction with Blue Berry Hill Rd.

For the 10 mile loop, stay on NM 240 straight. 3 miles to Historic Downtown Taos. This road will bring you into the back of the plaza. Left at light onto Camino de la Placita then a quick right ( looks like an alley) through the plaza to the Stop light, this is NM 68. Cross 68 to NM 64 to Angel Fire. 2.3 mile to NM 585. Turn right, west 2.1 miles to junction with NM 68. Straight on Canyon (585) one block then right on Salazar. Right to Taos Cyclery parking lot.

For the 18 mile loop, turn left on Blue Berry Hill. Short climb then 4.4 mile with great views of Taos Mountain. Junction NM 64, turn right 0.1 miles to NM 64-68. Turn right. You are heading south to El Prado- Taos. 3.4 miles to junction NM 64. On your right is The Historic Plaza, turn left. 2.3 mile to NM 585. Turn right, west 2.1 miles to junction with NM 68. Straight on Canyon (NM 585) one block then right on Salazar. Right to Taos Cyclery parking lot.
